Applicants for the WTS Scholarship must be a woman medical student or a resident physician in training in an accredited thoracic surgery program or a resident in an accredited general surgery program who is interested in a career in thoracic or cardiac surgery.

The scholarship covers meeting registration fees, hotel accommodations, and up to $500 in related travel expenses to be used to attend the STS 48th Annual Meeting in Fort Lauderdale, FL, Jan. 30 - Feb. 1, 2012. Recipients must attend the meeting in order to receive their award. To be considered, applicants are asked to complete an online application and write a short topical essay.

The WTS scholarship program has awarded 44 scholarships since its inception in 2005. In awarding this annual WTS scholarship, Women in Thoracic Surgery is fulfilling one of its stated missions "to enhance the education of women thoracic surgeons."
